The Best Solo Travel Destination

I have been fortunate to travel to many solo destinations during my trip across Asia and Europe.

In today’s blog, I’m going to give you five of the best solo travel destinations that you should visit for your next adventure. Not only are these great places to visit on your own, but they’re also very safe and (mostly) pretty affordable for the budget solo traveler.

I know that solo travel is a transformative experience, and offers the freedom to set your own pace while discovering new destinations. In my personal experience these five countries—Thailand, Japan, Iceland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom—offer some of the best solo travel destinations.

Each country provides a great environment to start your travels.

Thailand: Backpacker’s Paradise

Bangkok

Thailand’s bustling capital, Bangkok, is a must-visit for solo travelers. The city is famous for its vibrant street life, stunning temples, and bustling markets. Don’t miss the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and the lively Khao San Road. The city is also a hub for affordable and delicious street food.

Chiang Mai

For a more laid-back vibe, head to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. Surrounded by mountains and lush countryside, this city offers a mix of ancient temples, night markets, and outdoor adventures. Take a day trip to the Elephant Nature Park or explore the Doi Suthep Temple for breathtaking views.

Try these unique foods on your visit to Chiang Mai!

Sai Ua (Northern Thai Sausage) – A spicy and aromatic sausage made with minced pork, herbs, and spices such as lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and galangal. It’s often enjoyed with sticky rice and fresh vegetables.

Nam Prik Ong – A Northern Thai chili dip made with minced pork, tomatoes, and chilies, usually served with an assortment of fresh and steamed vegetables, as well as pork rinds.
