A Love Letter to Vietnam

My Time In Vietnam

Dear Anonymous,

Since we spent all our time together in Hanoi, I wrote you a letter.

When we met at the airport, your American smile was heartwarming. Green eyes and charm striking my soul, making it nerve-wracking to chat with you.

Our other solo traveler compatriot was a true mensch and made our “Phòever Squad” a trio. At dinner we all enjoyed a taste of Vietnam. Off table, our similarities were refreshing, and friendships gelled like the ingredients of a yummy Banh Mi snack.

Navigating the congested motorbike alleys with you made them less scary. My heart pumped when we survived uh… the train. For our food tour you were savory and sweet! We ate mushroom donuts and egg hot chocolate; I learned you also don’t drink coffee. Weird.

Our ever-faithful comrade was probably tired of our antics.

The luxury cruise around Ha Long Bay was the perfect send-off to our time.
Exploring misty mountain tops, over the hills and far away from civilization.

For your birthday we ate coffeecake and drank wine.

Our international crossing was coming to a natural conclusion.

Your presence in Hanoi was unexpected, but not taken for granted.
As Tennyson once wrote: “Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”

I wish you both joy and safety on your upcoming adventures.

Sincerely,
Morey
